Where a kingdom lives in every sip

Illedath was a royal principality that ruled the land now known as Cherthala in Alappuzha. Its Kaimal chieftains — cousins of the Raja of Cochin — presided over a land rich with pepper, ginger and spice. Dutch ships came for the spice. We kept the soul.

Today, we brew that same spirit into every cup of coffee, tea and milk — on the highway that runs through this ancient land.

KINGDOM

Five centuries ago,
this land was a kingdom.

I
The Kingdom Rises
In the 16th century, Karappuram — comprising Moothedath and Illedath — emerged as a powerful principality. The Kaimal chieftains, cousins of the Raja of Cochin, ruled with strength and wisdom over this spice-rich land.
II
The Dutch & The Spice
Dutch ships arrived seeking pepper and ginger. Treaties were signed. Warehouses were built. The world came to Illedath for its spice. The aroma of trade filled every canal and backwater of this kingdom.
III
The Name Forgotten
After the 1762 treaty, Karappuram was handed to Travancore. The kingdom dissolved. The name Illedath faded from maps and memory. Today it is known simply as Cherthala. Until now — we remember.
